Project Summery

In the of Spring 2017, Marlie, Worcestershire Wild Life Trust, Bromsgrove District Council and Severn Trent Water joined forces to create a safe haven for one of the U.K`s most endangered mammals the water Vole. The 600mm storm drain was removed and replaced by a vole friendly alternative that aimed to slow down and spread out the water more to help create a safer place for the voles out the way of predators.

The water quality at the site also fell short of the national standard so areas were created to allow plants that could filter the water as it flowed through meaning the water that entered the site left cleaner than it arrived.

Sanders Park adjacent of Battlefield Brook has been a safe haven for water voles and other wildlife since the completion of the project at the end of spring 2017.
